Frequently Asked Questions
HOURS
- Department
- The Police Department is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
- The Investigative Bureau is open Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm
- Front Counter Services
- Fingerprinting: 7 days a week, 9am - 4pm
- Bicycle Licenses: 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month, 10am - 2pm
- Registrants
- 11590 registration: By appointment. Please call (714) 562-3901.
- 290 registration: by appointment only. Call (714) 562-3977.
- Registrants will be required to fill out paperwork and need to have their probation/parole information.
- Registrants must bring some type of picture identification (California Driver's License, California Identification Card, or photo by BPPD).
- Vehicle Release: Available 24 hours a day.
- Checking of vehicle "fix-it" citations.
- Traffic
- Contesting Parking Citations: Tuesday, 1pm - 5pm and Thursday, 4pm - 7pm
- Subjects will need to contest their citation with the Traffic Division.
- Jail
- Jail Visitation: Monday - Sunday, 9am - 10:40am
- Must be over 18 years of age.
- No children allowed.
- Must have California Driver's License or Identification card
- Visitation will be limited to 15 minutes.
- An inmate may only have one visitor per day.
- If the inmate is incarcerated as a suspect in a domestic violence crime, the victim of that crime will not be allowed to visit the inmate.
- Property
- Property Release: Monday - Thursday, 7am - 4pm
- Property release is by appointment only. Please call the Property Technician at (714) 562-3922 to make an appointment. If the Technician is not there, please leave a message. The Technician will return calls in the order they were received.
FEES (No credit or ATM cards accepted)
- Fingerprinting
- We no longer fingerprint for INS purposes.
- In some cases, the person to be printed must bring their company's fingerprint card. Read your paperwork before coming to the station.
- The police department does not supply the 'LiveScan' forms or 'ink cards'. You must obtain these forms from your employer or whomever it is requesting you be fingerprinted.

- Bicycle License
- Free for Buena Park residents.
- This service is for Buena Park residents only.
- Vehicle Release
- Fee: $84.00, CASH ONLY
- Vehicle must be currently registered
- Registered owner must be present at the time of the release.
- A person with a valid drivers license must be present at the time of the release.
- The Buena Park Police Department currently utilizes two towing companies. Towing and daily fees care charged by the towing companies.

- Checking of equipment citations
- Fee: $10.00
- You must have the citation with you and the specific problem with the vehicle must be fixed.
- Extensions for citations are issued by the court. There are no phone extensions.
- You must have the written extension for us to sign off the ticket.
- Clearance letters
- Fee: $10.00
- Social Security card required, along with a California Driver's License or Identification card.
- Copies of Police reports
- Fee: $2.00
- Your name needs to appear in the report.
- When you pay the fee, you will fill out a request form and a copy of the report will be mailed to you within 10 business days.
- Repossession Fee
- Fee: $15.00
- After paying the fee, you must contact the Repossession company regarding your vehicle.
- Vehicle VIN Verification
- Fee: $25.00
- If the vehicle is not working, an officer can be sent to the location to verify the VIN. However, the fee must be paid at the front counter first.
