The Police Chief’s Advisory Board was established in September 2015 - the first Board of its kind in the history of the Buena Park Police Department.  Chief Sianez is now recruiting to fill immediate and future vacancies on his Board and welcomes interested community members.  We Invite you to complete and submit an application.

Mission and Purpose of the Police Chief’s Advisory Board

The Buena Park Police Department is committed to community policing. To that end, the mission of the Police Chief’s Advisory Board is to act as a resource for Chief Sianez in the formation of strategies, development of policing concepts, and increasing public awareness regarding policy issues.

To carry out its purpose, the Board will address overcoming problems associated with police-community relations, the improvement of the Buena Park Police Department’s operations, and public safety issues in order to further enhance the quality of life in our community. In doing so, the Police Chief’s Advisory Board is intended to reinforce our elected values of the PRIDE concept: Partnership, Respect, Innovation, Dedication and Excellence.

The Board is designed for open discussion regarding trends in law enforcement, uses of force, police pursuits and other significant police issues.

The Board meets on the first Wednesday of every month at the Buena Park Police Department at 6 p.m. It is expected that each Board Member contribute and provide input on topics the Chief of Police deems appropriate and timely.

Although the Police Chief’s Advisory Board is expected to be proactive, it will have no power or authority to investigate, review or otherwise participate in matters involving specific police personnel or specific police-related incidents. It will in no way receive or review complaints initiated against personnel of the Buena Park Police Department, nor play any role in civil or criminal litigation. The Police Chief’s Advisory Board acts solely in an advisory capacity and will not be involved in decision making at any level. The Board will be driven by the creativity and vision of its members and is intended to be an expression of the Buena Park community’s viewpoints.
 
Composition of the Police Chief’s Advisory Board

The Police Chief’s Advisory Board will consist of 12 - 15 key stakeholders, comprised of a diverse cross-section of active community members throughout the City of Buena Park. These members will represent a range of interests and experience, including both large and small businesses, education, non-profits, public relations, faith community, political arena and more.

Staff Support for the Police Chief’s Advisory Board

Staff support for the Police Chief’s Advisory Board will be provided through the Office of the Chief of Police. Chief Sianez will be the Buena Park Police Department’s liaison to the Police Chief’s Advisory Board. The Police Chief’s Executive Secretary will act as the Recording Secretary for the Board and will record the proceedings of meetings of the Police Chief’s Advisory Board (i.e., Minutes). The Executive Secretary will disseminate information, including meeting Minutes, to members of the Police Chief’s Advisory Board, and will maintain all records related to the Board.

Police Chief’s Advisory Board Member Term Limits

The term for Board Members is limited to two years to allow for greater participation by all interested parties. Extensions for sitting on the Board will be considered on an individual basis at the discretion of the Chief of Police.

Board Members of the Police Chief’s Advisory Board may be removed for any cause prior to the end of their term, also at the discretion of the Chief of Police, for the benefit of the Board as a whole. Members who fail to attend three consecutive regular meetings may be considered to have vacated their position and may be replaced.

Members of the Police Chief’s Advisory Board acknowledge that service is strictly on a voluntary basis and members will not receive any form of compensation. In addition, all members will be subject to a criminal history background investigation.

Applications to the Police Chief’s Advisory Board

Applications may be obtained weekdays from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the front counter of the Buena Park Police Department, or by completing the on-line application form. Applicants will be interviewed and appointed by the Chief of Police and his two Captains. Applications will be accepted year-round and will be kept on file for one year. All applicants should review the above information and expectations prior to submitting an application. Please click below for an application.
