Report Transcription

The police department utilizes a high-speed computer system for the transcription of police reports. By simply dictating their investigative reports into a micro-cassette recorder, police officers and detectives save an immense amount of time as compared to writing or typing reports. This allows officers more time to provide service to the community and to be available to respond quickly to urgent calls.

The transcriptionists are able to type over 200 words a minute from the officer’s voice recording directly into a properly formatted report. The report is then saved on the computer in a word processing format. Once completed, the transcribed report is forwarded to the Watch Commander for review and approval.

The police department has 4 part-time transcriptionists who work various shifts throughout the week to meet the demands of completing all reports in a timely manner.
