The Court Liaison position is a specialized assignment for one full-time Police Clerk to function as a ‘go-between’ for the North Justice Center Court and the Police Department. The Court Liaison prepares all the necessary paperwork generated by the Police Department which must be taken to the court each day. Much of the workday is spent consulting with the Deputy District Attorneys, the Traffic Court, and the Clerk of the Jury Calendar to determine the status and disposition of cases.
The Court Liaison also collects, records, and distributes subpoenas to officers on all criminal and traffic cases. The Court Liaison is responsible for notifying an officer when he or she is required to appear in court. This procedure allows an officer to stay at home on a standby basis until the court determines the day and time the officer is needed to testify. The Court Liaison, through this position, is able to substantially reduce the amount of court-related overtime expenditures.Under contract, the Buena Park Court Liaison also provides Court Liaison services to the City of La Palma.
