On Jan 1, 2005 the California Vehicle Code changed as follows:
- All riders must be 16 years old and have a valid California Drivers License or a Learners Permit in their possession.
- The rider must wear a bicycle helmet that is fastened and fits properly.
- None of the other laws have changed.
If a rider is stopped and does not have a valid Drivers license or Permit:
- The rider will be cited for being an unlicensed rider.
- The go-ped/scooter will be impounded for 30-days (per 14602.6a cvc).
