THE MOST COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT DIRTBIKES / ATV’S:
CAN YOU RIDE THEM ON THE STREET?
SHORT ANSWER: NO
These vehicles can only be ridden at OHVA locations or private property.
VEHICLE CODE SECTION 38025cvc: Off-Highway vehicles are not permitted for use on public streets.
- An Off-Highway vehicle must be registered thru the DMV and have a “Red or Green” sticker clearly visible.
- Quads, ATV’S, Dirtbikes and Dune buggies are all considered Off-Highway vehicles.
- When found on the roadway, the rider will be cited for 38025cvc (off-highway vehicle on the roadway).
VEHICLE CODE SECTION 12500(a)cvc: No person shall drive a motor vehicle upon a highway, unless the person has a valid drivers license.
- If the rider does not posses a valid drivers license, they will be cited for 12500(a)cvc (unlicensed rider) and the vehicle will be impounded and held for 30 days per vehicle code section 14602.6(a)cvc.
