The Buena Park Reserve Police Officer Unit is authorized for up to 25 reserve police officers who are sworn to “protect and serve” just the same as regular officers. While working at the Buena Park Police Department, reserve officers also carry the same authority and responsibility as regular officers. One police sergeant supervises the Reserve Unit and utilizes the assistance of regular officers who are the Reserve Coordinators. The reserve police officer’s primary function is to supplement patrol services. Reserve Officers can work in a single-officer patrol unit, or as a two-officer unit partnered with another sworn officer. Reserve officers perform law enforcement services throughout the department. Reserve officers also work at a variety of different assignments besides regular patrol. These assignments include: Gang suppression, Traffic, Detectives, Problem-Oriented Policing, Bicycle patrol, Silverado Days, High School sports and social events, Bingo, Spring Cleanup, Halloween Haunt, Fourth of July, driver’s license and DUI checkpoints, and local elections. Reserve officers also assist in the jail and conduct extra patrols at the Buena Park Mall during the holiday season. |
