Problem Oriented Policing Team (POP)

The Problem-Oriented Policing (P.O.P.) team consists of 3 Problem-Oriented Policing officers and 1 sergeant. The purpose of the P.O.P. team is to proactively target areas for improvement throughout the city, and to seek long-term solutions. By addressing issues when they are small, the P.O.P. team is very effective in preventing these issues from blossoming into large issues later.

The P.O.P. team works as an integral component of the Buena Park “Neighborhood Improvement Task Force” (NITF). This task force consists of representatives from a variety of city departments, including: Police, Finance, Code Enforcement, Building, Public Works, Community Development, and the Convention and Visitors Bureau. The NITF team also works closely with the City Prosecutor, Orange County Health Department, and the Orange County Fire Authority.

The NITF team meets once a week to review recent progress and to determine plans of action in order to best deal with current issues that result in the decline of a neighborhood or a commercial business area. Working together in a cooperative effort, the NITF has been very successful in improving the quality of life of those living and visiting Buena Park.

Each year, the P.O.P. receives several hundred problems/issues that are brought forth by citizens, business owners, patrol officers, and members of the NITF. Each of these problems/issues is discussed in an open forum to develop effective and long-term solutions to the problem. Gaining voluntary compliance is the ideal goal. However, in some cases, violators have been taken to court.

The entire P.O.P. team is very proud of their accomplishments! By working closely with all members of the community, the P.O.P. team is able to provide service that has a direct positive effect to all that live, work, and visit in Buena Park.
