Prisoner Processing

The Buena Park City Jail is a “Type 1” facility. This means that our jail facility is suitable for holding non-sentenced inmates. After processing, arrestees may be housed in the jail until such time they are transferred to another holding facility, or for appearance in court for arraignment on charges. Juveniles are also processed and detained until released to a parent/guardian or transferred to Juvenile Hall.

Full-time Jailers maintain the facility 24 hours a day. Jailers are responsible for completing the booking process of arrestees, which includes fingerprinting and photographing each arrestee.

Arrestees are then secured in a housing unit, or cell. The safety and health of arrestees are continually monitored to ensure the best possible treatment in a humane environment.

All Jailers regularly attend standardized training courses for Correctional Officers in order to remain current with any changes in jail regulations or standards for inmate safety. The Board of Corrections, Juvenile Justice Commission, Orange County Grand Jury, Health Department, and Fire Authority each conduct annual inspections of the Buena Park City Jail facility to ensure that it complies with current state standards.

Each year, the Buena Park City Jail processes approximately 5,000 adult and juvenile arrestees.
